Welcome to Chicago: Let's change the world

Today May 17th, in Chicago, the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago in partnership with the African Community Fund for Education Group welcomes leaders from across the US and the world to the launch of the 1st Annual Girls Education Conference.

Dorri McWhorter, the CEO of the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago & Stanley Ndambakuwa, the CEO of the African Community Fund for Education Group, take to the stage to introduce this life-size partnership to create opportunities to educate girls.

This conference is to raise awareness and engage in dialogue around the importance of investing in girls’ education and to raise funds to support various girls’ education initiatives. The theme for the event is FEARLESS GIRLS: HOW INVESTING IN GIRLS’ EDUCATION YIELDS GLOBAL ECONOMIC GROWTH.

For 140 years, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago has worked to empower women and girls and create racial equity through direct services and public policy advocacy. Over the past three years, the YWCA has focused on a business model that allows for greater investment in women and girls through initiatives such as the Women’s Health Exchange, workforce development, comprehensive Sexual Violence Support Services, and TechGYRLS youth STEM program.

Through the Educate the Girl Child Campaign the ACFE Group over the past 5 years, has focused on international partnerships to create more opportunities for access to education for girls.
