Eng. Funani Mojono is the CEO of Imerys Southern Africa. Funani’s strengths are in Strategy Development and implementation, negotiations and change management. Among his notable achievements: He led the compilation of the 2009 AMSA Corporate Strategy, restructuring Collect-a-Can for effectiveness and efficiency of operations – resulting in profitability for the first time in 13 years, and sustainability for 3 years. He developed a number of breakthrough projects at Nampak driving efficiency waste management program and thus saving in excess of R10 million per annum.
Funani served as the CEO Mining and General Manager Aggregates for Lafarge South Africa from 2011 – 2013 where he restructured the business for effective support of customers and cost reduction managing a total of 780 people. He served as General Manager of ArcelorMittal South Africa from 2009 – 2011 where he refocused the business from a product based business to a service business. He also served as Managing Director for Collect-a-Can (Pty) Ltd managing a total of 140 people. Funani worked as Business Manager for the Ferrous Foundry, Mittal Steel from 2005 – 2006, and as independent Management Consultant from 2004 – 2005. He also worked as Associate for Bentlywest Strategic Consulting from 2003 – 2004, as Consultant for Deloitte Consulting from 2001 – 2003, and as Process Engineer for Nampak from 1998 – 2001. Funani holds a qualification of Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pretoria (1996). He holds extra professional qualifications in Management Development Programme (Project – Retention of Valuable Skills), and Executive Development Programme (General Management).
